DESCRIPTION:greetings friends, comrades, companeros!\n\nIMPACT! is excited to announce
the next gathering of community activists and organizations of Sonoma
County, which shall take place on Sunday, December 7th at Noon. This
meeting will once again be held at 1251 Marian Way in Petaluma. Last
October 5th, 20 people from more than 10 local organizations met, heard
about the projects and history of the youth social movement in Petaluma,
and discussed all the various diverse projects being organized all across
our county, from efforts to create sustainable communities, to movements
for peace and immigrants' rights, to young feminist clubs, and local
artistic and cultural groups (among many others). Now it is time for
another gathering where we bring together all the elements in our local
activist community to discuss how to move forward and how we can work more
closely to collectively bring about social change. It is clear we are
living in a truly historic moment. But it is our responsibility to
capitalize on this moment and not wait for change to be handed down to us.
It is up to us to ensure that the change that our people long for becomes a
reality. the only way to do this is to come together.\n\nThis is why we
are asking all of you to attend this next meeting on Dec. 7th. Whether
you're in high school and never been involved politically, or if you've
been in the struggle for decades, everybody who believes in locally
produced social justice should come out. spread the word and bring all yo
friends!\nSo far, the goals of this next meeting are:\n1.) to hear from
groups all around the county who are working on different and exciting
projects\n2.) to propose ideas for collaboration between all sonoma county
community/social/political organizations\n\nBut we would like to hear from
all of you who might like to participate. What would you like to see out of
a meeting like this? What ideas might you have for how all these different
groups can work together? What other items would you like to discuss with
your fellow activists? Whereas last meeting was heavily focused on our
group, IMPACT!, this next meeting will strive to be more participatory. but
in order to do that, we need you help and your ideas. Although our group is
facilitating this effort, it is by no means under our control. So please
offer any and all thoughts, criticisms, ideas you have so we can make this
a really successful event. We also are looking for 1 or 2 people who would
like to facilitate the meeting, so it is not dominated solely by
IMPACT!\n\nLastly, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD! The more voices we hear at this
meeting, the stronger this network will become.\n\nIf you can, also please
RSVP. We will most likely be cooking food for everyone and needing to
provide chairs, so we will need to have an accurate number of attendees.
thank you very much.\n\n\nIMPACT! is a radical organization of students and
young workers based in Petaluma. We currently have three programs: Food Not
Bombs (day labor organizing), CopWatch, and City of Refuge Campaign for
Immigrants' Rights. We believe in neighborhood/community organizing, youth
leadership development, solidarity, and direct action. \n
