 \nSubstantial experience in project organization and implementation, budget 
 management, administrative planning, program development and assessment, 
 and creative problem solving.\n\nExcellent communication, interpersonal, 
 public relations, team and consensus building, facilitation and public 
 speaking skills.\n\nSubstantial experience with mentoring and advising 
 undergraduate and graduate students; substantial knowledge of relevant and 
 current issues that impact the retention and matriculation of undergraduate 
 and graduate students.\n\nSubstantial experience with counseling 
 undergraduate and graduate students and managing crisis situations that 
 impact these populations.\n\nExcellent writing skills and the ability to 
 prepare program evaluations, annual reports, and a variety of other 
 publications.\n\nThe ability to apply good judgment, especially in 
 confidential, sensitive, and/or crisis situations.\n\nSubstantial 
 sensitivity to cross-cultural, gender, race, ability, and sexual 
 orientation issues and implementation of programs to meet diverse 
 needs.\n\nSubstantial ability to analyze, plan, recommend and implement 
 strategies for programming, advocacy, support and services to women in an 
 academic environment and in the community.\n\nSubstantial experience and 
 skills in grant writing and fundraising techniques.\n\nOrganizational and 
 management skills with policy formulation and budgetary 
 experience.\n\nAbility to create an environment that supports working 
 effectively with diverse groups of people and where difficult, sensitive, 
 and confidential situations are handled tactfully and according to 
 university policy and procedures.\n\nExperience in supervising professional 
 and student staff.\n\nKnowledge sufficient to use computers for electronic 
 mail, basic web site development and maintenance, word processing, desktop 
 publishing and data base development.  \n\nPreferred Qualifications / 
 Competencies  \nSpecial Conditions of Employment Selected candidate will be 
 required to pass a criminal history background check.\n\nMasters degree in 
 Counseling, Education, Student Development, Feminist Studies or related 
 field; or Bachelors degree in related field and demonstrated Masters level 
 equivalent professional training and experience.  \n\n30 Programming and 
 Advocacy \nProvide strategic leadership in the design, development, 
 implementation, assessment, coordination, and continuous improvement of 
 programs and services for undergraduate students, graduate students, alumni 
 and community members:\n\n-Oversee the development and management of a 
 comprehensive and coordinated program for members of the university and the 
 local community. The general purpose of the Center's programming will be to 
 focus, explore and respond to the concerns of women in a variety of 
 intellectual, educational, and social contexts. Collaborative 
 cross-generational and multi-ethnic projects are central to the Center's 
 activities.\n\n-Responsible for working collaboratively with student 
 interns, staff and community members in the planning and implementing 
 on-going series of lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops, conferences, 
 etc.\n\n- Responsible for the development/coordination of internships for 
 students who wish to work with community organizations concerned with 
 women's issues\n\n- Collaborate with the Graduate Division, to ensure that 
 Resource Center programs that target graduate students are relevant, 
 current and effective.\n\n- Plan, establish and oversee a Resource Center 
 and library.\n\n- Plan, establish and oversee a community and campus 
 referral system for women's support services.\n\n- Supervise the 
 publicizing and promotion of Center activities and events on campus and 
 throughout the off-campus community, and work with media groups as 
 appropriate.\n\n- Advocate for multicultural women's issues on campus and 
 in the community, and provide resources to the campus and community on 
 women's issues and needs.\n\n- Coordinate and oversee the Women's Center 
 Board\n\n- Work in collaboration with other Resource Center Directors, 
 counseling services, health center, and other campus units in providing 
 specialized training related to mental health, wellness and well 
 being.\n\n25 Management and Administration \n- Establish a vision for 
 Resource Center programs and services, by implementing short and long range 
 departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.\n\n- 
 Provide strategic direction and leadership for all aspects of Resource 
 Center programs and services.\n\n- Develop annual goals and objectives, 
 which support the Student Affairs Divisional mission and vision.\n\n- 
 Responsible for recruiting, selecting and supervising appropriate permanent 
 staff, casual staff, student interns and student employees: conducting 
 appropriate and thorough job training and assignment of duties, completing 
 performance evaluations as necessary, provide professional development 
 opportunities, and achieving campus/ divisional diversity goals.\n\n- 
 Establish systems of communication and dissemination of information, 
 policy, procedure, and protocol to department heads and 
 personnel.\n\n-Develop and implement systems of assessing the quality and 
 effectiveness of all programs and services; establish ongoing quality 
 improvement methods.\n\n15 Fiscal and Facilities Management \n- Develop 
 coordinated systems of resource planning and allocation among Women's 
 Center programs and services.\n\n- Oversee the development and approval of 
 annual budgets and financial forecasts; monitor the fiscal performance of 
 Women's Center services; accountable for all expenditures and funds; ensure 
 that the programs and services are managed in a fiscally responsible manner 
 in compliance with all University, State and Federal policies and 
 regulations.\n\n- Plans, develops, and implements strategies for generating 
 resources and/or revenues for the Center. Identify and develop sources of 
 funding within the public and private sectors for support of the Center's 
 programs. This includes foundation support for educational programs that 
 integrate University and community groups, as well as local 
 revenue-generating events, facility rentals of space. In collaboration with 
 the development office, coordinate grant activities and efforts.\n\n- 
 Oversee the facility management of Cardiff House and adjacent grounds, 
 including facility rentals, insurance, risk management, renovations and 
 improvements.\n\n10 Advising and Consultation \n- Serve as advisor, working 
 with undergraduate and graduate students on a host of issues. Assist 
 students with personal, academic, and career concerns and when appropriate, 
 make referrals to on and off campus resources.\n\n- Serve as a resource 
 person who can provide advice, counseling and referrals to students 
 regarding specific types of student grievances, including alleged 
 discrimination and harassment, based on gender, racial and cultural 
 backgrounds, or sexual orientation.\n\n- Provide mediation and conflict 
 resolution among student organizations and campus community members where 
 needed and appropriate in order to assist in building community and 
 fostering collaborative activities.\n\n- Provide campus wide leadership on 
 topics related to women's issues; as appointed by the Associate Vice 
 Chancellor/Dean of Students or Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, serve on 
 numerous campus wide and divisional committees and task forces.\n\n- 
 Collaborate with various institutional divisions, Resource Centers, 
 Undergraduate Education, Graduate Division, the Colleges, Alumni 
 Association, and other campus units to establish partnerships that are 
 beneficial to students and other constituents.\n\n- Engage and build 
 relationships with faculty and academic departments that enhance Women's 
 Center programs and services to students.\n\n10 Retention \n- Actively 
 support the retention of UCSC undergraduate and graduate students, through 
 mentorship, and implementation and facilitation of peer support groups. 
 Actively build bridges and working relationships between undergraduate and 
 graduate education, to encourage matriculation to graduate school.\n\n- 
 Develop, and regularly update and publish results of a needs-assessment and 
 analysis of issues affecting the retention and matriculation of students. 
 Identify and promote existing retention-enhancing services to students; 
 develop and/or advocate for the development of new services as needed and 
 appropriate.\n\n- Increase retention of students by identifying specific 
 factors related to their retention, existing them with existing 
 retention-enhanced services, and developing other services as needed and 
 appropriate.\n\n5 Academic Support \n-Support and offer academic 
 programming as appropriate; serve as a resource specialist to students who 
 are conducting research, writing papers and/or developing independent 
 studies proposals. Make referrals to academic support services and 
 workshops.\n\n- Explore opportunities to offer "mini" unit courses in the 
 colleges; explore possibilities for lecturing in college core courses, 
 and/or in appropriate other departmental courses.\n\n- Provide 
 opportunities and resource materials for faculty and students to focus on 
 effective teaching and learning methods.\n\n-Provide Resource Center space 
 for informal/formal study groups and student research clusters.\n\n5 Crisis 
 Intervention \n- Provide crisis intervention, evaluation, and referral to 
 appropriate campus and community resources. Advise and counsel individual 
 seeking help for personal, professional, and academic problems related to 
 gender issues.\n\n- Provide training and consultation for campus partners 
 to assure competent, culturally sensitive care for students.\n
