DESCRIPTION:Susan Middleton, renowned wildlife and endangered species photographer,
comes to “Irreplaceable: Wildlife in a Warming World” traveling photo
exhibit, locally hosted at the San Francisco Public Library, on the evening
of November 18th to share her experiences and insights capturing the story
of imperiled plant and wildlife species threatened by climate change and
global warming. \n\nMs. Middleton, a native of the Bay Area, has been
dedicated to the documentation and portraiture of rare and endangered
animals, plants, sites, and cultures for the past 30 years. Her works have
been featured in exhibits and published throughout the world. She’s also
co-authored four books, including Witness: Endangered Wildlife in North
America, and produced an Emmy Award winning National Geographic television
special broadcast on NBC and PBS. \n\nSusan’s latest work involves
photographing specimens from the California Academy of Science’s
research collection for a new book, Evidence of Evolution, to be published
in Fall 2009, coinciding with the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin. The
photographs will serve as jumping off points for stories about evolution by
Mary Ellen Hannibal. There currently is an exhibit of portraits taken by
Susan of endangered species on display at the California Academy of
Sciences, called Witness; and there will also be an exhibition of her
images from the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, titled Archipelago, in 2009
at the Academy.\n\nAbout Irreplaceable: Wildlife in a Warming
World:\n"Irreplaceable: Wildlife in a Warming World" is a national campaign
and traveling photo exhibit that raises awareness about plants and animals
threatened by global warming. Featuring work by award-winning wildlife
conservation photographers, the 40-print exhibit brings the public
face-to-face with the wildlife most threatened by climate change - from the
Pacific salmon of California's coast and rivers to the American pika and
wolverine that live in the high peaks of Sierra Nevada mountain range. A
collaboration of art, justice, science, and faith groups, the campaign aims
to inspire hope, wonder, and action through the beauty and power of images.
Included in the exhibit are species that Earthjustice, the nation's
leading public interest environmental law organization, are fighting to
protect from global warming. The Irreplaceable campaign is presented by a
coalition of justice, faith, art and science groups represented by
Earthjustice, Noah Alliance , International League of Conservation
Photographers (ILCP), Conservation International's Center for Applied
Biodiversity Science (CABS) as well as local partners. \nFor information on
