 california 94965 - {415} 331-3442 -
www.theuntitledgallery.com\n\n\nUntitled gallery is proud to present the
newest collection of works by San Francisco artists Kate Nichols and Paz de
la Calzada, Traces from November 15th through January 5th.\n\nHaunting and
ethereal, San Francisco artists, Kate Nichols and Paz de la Calzada,
showcase their latest work in Traces. Addressing the body as a "site
without distinct boundaries," Nichols and Calzada work to restructure that
which is neither tamed nor bestial.\n\nPhysicality, sense of time, and
place dissolve and are held in suspension in Nichols' paintings of bodies
in beds. Traces highlights notions of order and chaos as Calzada reworks
our visual and associative familiarity with female hair—interrogating the
human narrative as it straddles the urban and the bucolic. Both Nichols and
Calzada implicate their personal realities as they ask us to confront our
own. In doing so, Calzada brings us a penetrating, often taunting, critique
into our own constructed chaos. Nichols embraces this chaotic ambiguity as
well, envisioning the body as occupying a state that is at once grounded in
the sensual and hovering in the transcendental.\n\nKate Nichols is a
classically trained painter with a keen interest in the physics and
chemistry of color. She has exhibited in several group exhibitions and one
solo show in Los Angeles. Nichols lives in San Francisco.\n\nPaz de la
Calzada - originally from Madrid, Spain - has exhibited work in Europe,
Mexico, and across the United States. In 2004, she began an art residency
program at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA and has recently finished a
residency at the Millay Colony for the Arts in NY. Now living in San
Francisco's Mission District, Calzada's work continues to be informed by
her current urban landscape.\n\n\nUntitled gallery is located in the heart
of downtown Sausalito. Run by Sonoma painter/sculptor Nathan Wong in
conjunction with McCloud designs, Untitled is a space created by artists
for artists. We are committed to the exhibition of vital, complex and
thought-provoking contemporary art of emerging and established artists.
Driven by the belief that artistic expression can manifest itself via
various mediums and techniques, Untitled strives to affirm these distinct
and multifarious forms.\n\n\nFor more information or photographs of the
show please contact Nathan Wong at 415.331.3442 or email us at
