DESCRIPTION:Physicians’ Report on the State of America’s Health and Health
Reform\nPost-election update: Doctors to brief Bay Area healthcare reform
advocates and the public this Saturday\n\nAt 3 pm Saturday, November 8, a
group of doctors who attended the recent annual meeting of Physicians for a
National Health Program will report on the state of America's health and
share current ideas about how to solve America's burgeoning healthcare
crisis. This free, public forum will take place at the Mission Cultural
Center, 2868 Mission St., in San Francisco. A panel of health professionals
and medical students will discuss the latest policy trends for universal
healthcare in the context of the national election results. Following their
formal presentation, the public will have an opportunity to ask questions
and participate in an open discussion.\n\nThe speakers and forum topics
include:\n\nLi-hsia Wang, MD: Single payer and the crisis in primary
care\n\nRichard Quint, MD: Bringing the single-payer movement to Washington
in 2008 \n\nHank Abrons, MD: Physicians' opinions about national health
insurance\n\nBill Tarran, DPM: Building the movement after the
elections\n\nUrsula Rolfe, MD: Health reform efforts in
Massachusetts\n\nClaudia Chaufan, MD, PhD: Taiwan’s healthcare
system\n\nYohko Murakami, Stanford University medical student: Challenges
facing today’s medical students\n\nJohn Shearer, MD: Healthcare in
Canada\n\nSeth Weissman, MD: The shareholder and business case for
reform\n\nSponsored by Single Payer Now (SPN) and the California Universal
Health Care Education Project\n\nSPN is a grassroots organization of
volunteers working since 1994 to support universal single-payer healthcare
for California and the United States. By eliminating the private health
insurance industry, single-payer health reform in our state and/or nation
would give everyone access to comprehensive health care and save billions
of dollars.\n\nPhysicians for a National Health Program, a membership
organization of over 15,000 physicians, supports a single-payer national
 health insurance program.
