DESCRIPTION:Celebrate ThanksLiving at Animal Place!\n\nAnimal Place, a 60-acre
sanctuary and education center, is hosting its first-annual ThanksLiving
event on Saturday, November 22. Come out to the sanctuary and meet the
turkeys and other animals, hear from speakers on a variety of topics and
gobble up delicious Celebration roasts from Field Roast, Tofurky roasts
from Turtle Island Foods, desserts from Sugar Plum Vegan and
more!\n\nConsider bringing special treats for the turkeys: Cooked brown
rice, pumpkin pie, grapes and cantaloupe (in small pieces) are some of
their holiday favorites. \n\n"Animal Place's ThanksLiving event honors the
turkeys at the sanctuary,” says Marji Beach, education coordinator. “It
gives visitors a chance to get up close and personal with trilling Eliza
and handsome Leland. This is one way we can also remember the 270-million
turkeys who end up on dinner plates instead of at sanctuaries."
\n\n"Turkeys are a misunderstood species,” adds Kim Sturla, executive
director of Animal Place. “Often thought of as stupid, turkeys are
actually quite intelligent and form incredibly strong social bonds with
other turkeys, sometimes other species! Animal Place wants the public to
celebrate these birds, not eat them." \n\nSpeaking at the ThanksLiving
event will be Lauren Ornelas, founder of the Food Empowerment Project, who
will discuss her work investigating factory farms and share a personal
story about Taylor, a turkey she rescued in 2005. She’ll also address the
need for doing what we can for others, especially now.\nLauren is the
former executive director of Viva!USA, a national nonprofit vegan advocacy
organization. \n\nAlso speaking will be Mark Hawthorne, author of the new
book Striking at the Roots: A Practical Guide to Animal Activism. Mark will
discuss how easy it is for anyone to get active for animals. \n\nDue to
parking limitations, this event is limited to 40 people, so register today!
(Once the sign-ups reach 40, we will maintain a wait list.)\n\nWhen:
 Saturday, November 22, 2008\nTime: 12:00 - 3:00 pm\nLocation: Animal
 Place\nAges: 5 and older\nFee: $30.00/adult; $10.00/child under age of
