DESCRIPTION:Get on your bike this October and celebrate “Gas-Free Fridays” with the
San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. \nGrab your bike and a friend or co-worker
and pedal by one of the SFBC’s morning energizer stations. The SFBC will
be out in bike lanes around San Francisco every Friday in October to cheer
you on and help you "Fuel up" with free Fair Trade Certified coffee, tea
and snacks. The SFBC wants to encourage more people to substitute one short
car trip with a bicycle trip every Friday this October, because riding a
bike is just a fun, healthy and easy way to get around San Francisco. Half
of all driving trips are under two miles in length -- a distance easily
travelled by bicycle--and these short trips are creating more pollution.
60% of the pollution created by automobile emissions happens in the first
few minutes of operation, and 50% of the greenhouse gas emissions in San
Francisco come from transportation. So, getting out of your car is a good
thing. And the really good news is that riding a bicycle just 5 miles a day
will burn an average of 55,125 calories a year -- that's 275 scoops of ice
cream! See all the Energizer Station Locations, \n
