DESCRIPTION:by Humboldt forest defense supporter \nTuesday Sep 30th, 2008 9:52 AM \nA
loose coalition is planning an upbeat end to two decades Maxxam
Corporation’s destructive presence in our forests, our towns, and our
lives. Finally, after 21 years, the banner MAXXAM OUT OF HUMBOLDT comes
true!. \n\nWhen; October 4, 2 pm \n\nWhere;Cuneo Creek Horse Camp
\n(directions below) \n\nIf you’ve been involved in the long struggle
over Pacific Lumber, \nplease save the date and get involved with this
 event! \n\n\nContact: \n\n\nSawyer 707.834.6174 sawyersoup @yahoo.com
 \n\nKaren Pickett 510.548.3113 bach @headwaterspreserve.org \n\nKerul Dyer
 707.822.7711 kerul @wildcalifornia.org \n\nWe need help coordinating
logistics for this event. \n\nLogistics: We will need to arrange
porta-potties, fire safety, drinking water, communications/security,
hand-washing area, parking, welcome table, first aid station, shade/rain
shelters, transportation, and trash. \n\nMemorial Wall: Gather photographs,
news clippings, banners, posters, etc, build 4 part plywood wall for
displays, bring electrical spools for display tables. \n\nStage:_We need
musicians, a stage manager, a sound engineer, sound equipment, set up and
break down crews, and a few speakers. \n\nMovie area: We will need a large
screen and some kind of seats for people to view an historic video montage
that people are piecing together. \n\nFood: This event will be a potluck
BBQ. We need people to coordinate the food area and arrange for appropriate
dishware. Sign-up sheets at the welcome table will provide for food clean
up. \n\nBeverages: No celebration would be complete with out local brews
and wine available. We need a responsive crew who can help coordinate the
service of donated beer and wine. \n\nFun elements: This is a celebration!
Let’s have fun with interactive games and contests. Suggestions include a
giant Hurwitz piñata filled with chocolate gold coins, “Pin the
Tree-sitter in the Redwood” game, a comedic “bury the hatchet”
activity, a wood chopping contest and more. \n\nPublicity: To make sure
that everyone who needs to be there knows about the event, we need to be
sure that word of the Hurwitz out of Humboldt Memorial Celebration is out!
We need a nice poster, some public service announcements, a press release
and people to make phone calls. \n\nDirections to Cuneo Creek Horse Camp:
\n\nFrom the south: \n\nFrom Highway 101, take the South Fork/Founders Tree
exit. At the intersection with the Avenue of the Giants, turn left. Drive
over the bridge above the Eel River. On the other side of the bridge is a
sign indicating Honeydew and Rockefeller Forest. Turn left there and go
under the freeway underpass. You are now on the Mattole Road. Drive about
eight miles on this road and you will see the Cuneo Creek Horse Campground
sign. Turn right and drive in the entrance road until you arrive at the
campground. \n\nFrom the north: \n\nFrom Highway 101, take the
Honeydew/South Fork exit. Turn right at the intersection at the bottom of
the offramp. You are now on the Mattole Road. Drive about eight miles on
this road and you will see the Cuneo Creek Horse Campground sign. Turn
right and drive in the entrance road until you arrive at the campground.
 \n\n\nmore info @; \nhttp://hurwitzoutofhumboldt.wordpress.com/ \n\n\nBTW,
the current economic fiasco on Wall Street can remind Humboldt forest
defense activists of the Texas Savings and Loan collapse that MAXXAM CEO
Hurwitz was directly involved in, very similar to the current situation.
What if the FDIC had done their job and investigated Hurwitz along with
Mike Milkin and Ivan Boesky instead of being derailed from their
investigation by the Doolittle/Pombo team whom Hurwitz lobbied? How many
redwoods would have been saved from destruction if Hurwitz was held
accountable for his criminal actions in the TX S & L collapse? \n\nMore
than just floodwater under the bridge, we're running into a similar
situation trying to bail out the banking CEOs of Wall Street with billions
of taxpayer dollars (just like after S & L collapse, yet Hurwitz remained
CEO for years afterwards!). We need to learn from our mistakes (or our
government's mistakes) and prevent further disaster from occurring by
reigning in and investigating corporate criminal CEOs of all types,
 banking, mortgage, etc...\n\n
