DESCRIPTION:In September 1998, thousands gathered in Berkeley, California, for the 
 conference that founded Critical Resistance’s movement to abolish the 
 prison industrial complex (PIC). \nTo celebrate 10 years of Critical 
 Resistance, thousands will converge once more, September 26-28, 2008, in 
 Oakland, California, for CR10, a 10th Anniversary Celebration and Strategy 
 Session. \nJoin us for the Opening Night Celebration featuring:\n•	Angela 
 Davis, Professor and author of “Are Prisons Obsolete?”\n•	All Nations 
 Drum, Oakland based traditional Pow Wow singing group. \n•	Linda Evans, 
 former political prisoner and co-founder of All of Us Or None, a national 
 organizing initiative of prisoners, formerly-incarcerated people and our 
 families, to combat the many forms of discrimination people face as the 
 result of a felony conviction. \n•	Hank Jones, one of a group of eight 
 Black community activists - now     called the SF8 – currently fighting 
 charges related to the 1971 killing of a San Francisco police 
 officer.\n•	Martin D. Martinez III aka  Mar/Tan, Director of the Social 
 Services Department, Red Road Director, Redwood Valley Rancheria Tribe in 
 Mendocino County. \n•	Lisa Ortega, Co-Director of Rights for People with 
 Psychiatric Disabilities, a grassroots, direct action organization that 
 works to demand justice and social change for imprisoned people with 
 disabilities. \n•	The Welfare Poets, a collective of activists, 
 educators, and artists who incorporates Hip Hop, Bomba y Plena, Latin Jazz 
 and other rhythms to bring information and inspiration to those facing 
 oppression and those fighting for liberation. \n•	Miss Major, Community 
 Organizing Director of TIP (Trans and gender variant in Prison Committee) 
 and TGIJP (Transgender, Gender-variant, and Intersex Justice 
 Project).\n•	Andrea Smith (Cherokee), anti-violence and Native American 
 activist and scholar, co-founder of INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence 
 & Boarding School Healing Project.\n•	The Destiny Arts Youth Performance 
 Company.\n•	Suheir Hammad, Palestinian-American poet, author and 
 political activist.\n•	The Freedom School Collective, of the West Village 
 in New York City.\n•	Music & graphics by: Black Arts Collective & Center 
 for the Study of Political Graphics \n\n
