DESCRIPTION:Double Feature \n\nTHE STORY OF STUFF \n\nFrom its extraction through sale,
use, and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home
and abroad; yet most of this is hidden from view. This short film is a
fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and
consumption patterns, our over-productivity and gargantuan wastefulness.
This story of how products and waste travel through our lives exposes the
connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and
calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It will
teach you something, it will make you laugh, and it just may change the way
you look at all the stuff in your life forever. \n\nTHE GREENING OF CUBA
\n\nThis informative film, made by Food First, profiles Cuban farmers and
scientists working to reinvent a sustainable agriculture, based on
ecological principles and local knowledge rather than imported agricultural
inputs. In their quest for self sufficiency, Cubans combine time-tested
traditional methods with cutting edge bio-technology. The film illustrates
Cuba's transition into food sovereignty — away from industrial
agriculture when the Soviet bloc collapsed. This is a hopeful story: a
glimpse into the best case scenario of what we may face in America once we
move beyond the fossil fuel economy. It also makes it clear that a
collective/coordinated/state-run approach is needed to make the transition
a positive one. The systemic juxtaposition is spelled out in an implicit
but not pedantic way. \n\nWheelchair accessible at 411 28th Street entrance
\n\nBefore and after the films, everyone's invited to indulge in our
Humanist Vegetarian Organic Refreshments. \n\n$5 donations are appreciated
