DESCRIPTION:At the beginning of 2009, Peace Action West, the nation's oldest and
largest peace and justice organization, will be ready to hit the ground
running with a progressive agenda and a vision for a new direction for US
foreign policy. Our work will be even more effective if we have strong
allies in Congress who can work with us, which is why the Peace Action West
Voter Fund is helping a handful of candidates in key races throughout the
west.\n\nRep. Jerry McNerney ran an impressive campaign in 2006 to unseat
right-wing Republican Richard Pombo. Since he took office, he has stood by
his progressive principles, voting in favor of a timeline to withdraw US
troops from Iraq and refusing to grant the Bush administration blank checks
to continue the occupation. He supported efforts to redirect wasteful
weapons spending and ensure congressional oversight of the Bush
administration’s plans around military action against Iran. Rep. McNerney
is the kind of leader we need in the House.\n\nDr. Bill Durston is running
against conservative Republican Dan Lungren in California’s 3rd
congressional district. Rep. Lungren scored a shameful 9% on Peace Action
West’s 2007 congressional scorecard, giving his approval to the foreign
policy status quo. Dr. Durston, on the other hand, has actively worked with
Physicians for Social Responsibility on nuclear disarmament and has pledged
to vote against war funding unless it is used for a responsible
withdrawal.\n\nPlease join us for an opportunity to hear directly from Rep.
McNerney and Dr. Durston about why they deserve your support. Visit the
 link to RSVP.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/09/11/18535409.php
