DESCRIPTION:Playwright-performer, Milta Ortiz, ruminates on the anxieties,
vulnerabilities and struggles of four contemporary women of color walking a
complex tightrope between salvation and self-destruction in their sometimes
neurotic, sometimes noble search for love and self-realization. An ensemble
performance straddling the comic and the tragic, the real and the
imaginary, the material and the mythological aspects of being a so-called,
“strong, independent woman.” Seamlessly blending theatre, dance, live
music, video and spoken word, SCATTER MY RED UNDERWEAR presents a
postmodern romp through a NeoXicana feminism. \n\nThis fourth rendition of
SMRU (previous productions included performances at MACLA in San Jose,
Malonga Center for the Arts in Oakland and La Peña Cultural Center in
Berkeley) features several new elements including choreography by Hugo
Carbajal, live music by Lakín Valdez and an expanded cast deftly directed
by La Peña resident artist, Marc David Pinate. \n\nSMRU: The Goddess Remix
featuring Scarlett Abuslin aka Roja 1, Milta Ortiz and Aryeh Shell.
Directed by Marc David Pinate. Written by Milta Ortiz. Masks and
Choreography by Hugo Carbajal. Live Music by Lakin Valdez. Set Design
by Tanya Orellana. Videos by Maya Chinchilla and Mitch Smith.
