DESCRIPTION:The education crisis today is a direct result of the destruction of the
labor movement in the 1950s and the corresponding increase in the
miltiarization of this society to promote the war machine, where most of
the profits are in this society where the primary goal is maximization of
profits. We are now witnessing the privatization of the schools, and a
military takeover of many schools in this country, as the state and federal
governments refuse to raise the progressive income tax on the rich to pay
for quality education for the workingclass, the 80% of the US population t
hat sells their labor for less than $76,000 a year. The labor organizing
of the New Deal of the 1930s must be renewed and expanded, and the
military, including JROTC, must be kicked out of all the public schools
immediately for they are are only in the schools to recruit cannon fodder
for the war machine and are by definition anti-education. Knowledge is
power and the public schools owe their existence to a strong labor
movement. Learn more from Harvey Smith, Fred Glass, Oakland Education
Association (OEA) and Berkeley Federation of Teachers (BFT) representatives
and go on a walking tour.\nFor information please call (510) 649-7395\nSee
