DESCRIPTION:It's that time of year—GLBT Pride festivities are upon us once again. Why
not take a break from all the usual corporate events, and come out (no pun
intended) to celebrate queer and anarchist history with the author of FREE
COMRADES?\n\nIn his book FREE COMRADES: ANARCHISM AND HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE
UNITED STATES, Terence Kissack expands the scope of the history of LGBT
politics in the US. The anarchists Kissack examines—such as Emma Goldman,
Benjamin Tucker, and Alexander Berkman—defended the right of individuals
to pursue same-sex relations, often challenging the conservative beliefs of
their fellow anarchists as well as those outside the movement—police,
clergy, and medical authorities—who condemned LGBT people.\n\nFor more on
 the book, see:

is a former Executive Director and current board member of San Francisco's
GLBT Historical Society. His writings have appeared in Radical History
Review and Journal of the History of Sexuality.\n\n
