DESCRIPTION:Today is the last day you may register to vote for the June 3, 2008
election to stop the repeal of rent control by voting No on 98/Yes on 99
and for affordable housing in San Francisco, Yes on F/No on G. This will
be a low voter turnout election because the presidential primary was in
February. To defeat Prop 98, we must overcome the 5 million Republican
voters who always vote in California. That means every pro-rent control
citizen must register and vote in San Francisco and Los Angeles. When you
register today, you can IMMEDIATELY vote absentee as we can vote absentee
the 29 days before the election, and please sign up to be a Permanent
Absentee (vote by mail) voter so you never forget to vote, can vote in the
comfort of your home, and do not have to worry about voting on a Tuesday.
If we lose rent control, MILLIONS more will be homeless in California
almost immediately. You do not have to vote on everything on the ballot,
but please vote No on 98/Yes on 99, and in SF, Yes on F/No on G. For more
 on No on 98, see\nhttp://www.sftu.org,\nhttp://www.noprop98.org/
\nhttp://www.no98yes99.com \nand the endorsers of No on 98 are at:
 \nhttp://www.no98yes99.com/go/who-we-are/prop.-98-opponents/ \n\nYou can
find your County Registrar of Voters (Elections Department) in your phone
 book and at:\nhttp://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_d.htm\n\nIf you are
working today, take a cab to get there on your lunch hour as registering
and voting takes just a few minutes. They are open all day from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m., including whatever lunch hour you have. \n\nIf you are 17 but will
be 18 on or before June 3, you can register on May 19 and then wait until
June 3 to vote. On June 3, you must be at least 18 years old, a US Citizen
and registered to vote on or before May 19, 2008 to vote on June 3, 2008.
If you became a US citizen after May 19 but before May 27, you may register
and vote at the Registrar (Department of Elections) office by May 27 with
proof of citizenship. You can register to vote so long as you are not in
prison or on parole for a felony conviction. If convicted of a felony, you
must be pardoned in order to vote. The homeless may vote; they just need to
put a street corner (e.g. Market and Van Ness Streets) as the street
address to be assigned a precinct, and then a mailing address, such as a PO
Box, on their voter registration form.\n
