DESCRIPTION:This intensive workshop will be a fun look into entertainment writing and
music criticism - how to cover the starts we idolize. It will focus on 3
basic areas: feature writing, music coverage and music criticism. Subjects
covered will include the Q+A, profiles and critiques. The class will also
go into how to write for different kinds of media: newspapers, magazines,
and broadcast outlets.\n\nInstructor: Marian Liu covers arts and
entertainment at the Seattle Times in both multimedia and print. She
recently taught a music criticism class at San Francisco State University,
and covered pop culture and music criticism for the San Jose Mercury News.
She also covers Bay Area hip-hop for the national magazine, The Source. In
the past, she has covered medical issues for the Detroit Free Press,
fashion for the Los Angeles Times, and news for the Oakland Tribune. Marian
has interviewed every one from Marilyn Manson to Jessica Simpson and has
been everywhere: backstage and in the band bus partying with artists,
sitting shotgun in an illegal drag race car and right next to the surgeon
as he slices in the OR.\n\n
