DESCRIPTION:Who controls the future of food production in Africa? The Alliance for
Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) proposes to eliminate the threat of
hunger for some 50 million Africans. Mukoma will address the debates
throughout Africa on the real deal behind the promises of Big Agra, the
threat to the diversity of seeds and the future of food sovereignty in
 Africa. \n\nOn February 6, 2007, the U.S. announced a new militarized
initiative for Africa known as AfriCOM. President Bush promises this will
new command will “bring peace and security to the people of Africa and
promote our common goals of development, health, education, democracy, and
economic growth in Africa.” But critics like Mukoma warn us that AfriCOM
will further militarize US relations with Africa through the Department of
Defense to secure access to the precious oil and other resources the US
needs from Africa. “Justice for Africa, not more guns and bombs” he
says.\n\nRecent elections in Kenya and Zimbabwe have proven the critical
role of African civil society. Mukoma will address the need for Africans
in the diaspora, as well as the broader US Africa movement to engage Africa
in a deeper way in order to generate people powered political
movements.\n\nRead more on this and other Africa events at:
