 award winning Santa Cruz composer Joel Ford, is an avant-garde 
 jazz/rock/reggae opera inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Coffee 
 Cantata. Ford’s smokin’ libretto presents a satirical twist on Bach’s 
 original coffee theme substituting marijuana as today’s illicit 
 substance. Ford’s original upbeat score infuses the libretto with lively 
 melodies and rhythms evocative of post-bop jazz and a ripple of reggae. The 
 opera’s nine-part jazz band features Paul Cantos on saxophone and Renzo 
 Staiano on guitar. The cast includes the vocal talents of Rebecca 
 Stuhlbarg, John Seales, Eric Iverson, and Claire Gendler. Directed and 
 produced by Joel Ford. \n \n\n
