DESCRIPTION:The San Francisco Housing Action Coalition (SFHAC) will host a panel
discussion with three new City Department leaders: John Rahaim, Director of
the Department of City Planning; Fred Blackwell, Executive Director of the
San Francisco Redevelopment Agency; and Isam Hasenin, Director of the
Department of Building Inspection. The panel will be moderated by Larry
Rosenthal, Executive Director of the Berkeley Program on Housing and Urban
Policy.\n\nOn Wednesday, April 2, from 7:30 am – 10:30 am these three new
leaders will share their vision for housing in San Francisco. This forum
will be held at the Mission Bay Conference Center.\n\nThe event follows a
highly successful public forum hosted by the SFHAC last March that
addressed the critical middle-income housing shortage that featured keynote
speaker former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros. The SFHAC hosts events
throughout the year that concentrate on key issues regarding housing in San
Francisco. The SFHAC plays an integral role in fostering discussion
surrounding the development of smart growth, transit-oriented development
and solutions to the City’s affordable housing crisis.\n\nThe SFHAC is a
membership-based non-profit working to create a pro-housing culture in San
Francisco. Started in 1998 as a small group of activists intent on changing
San Francisco’s dialogue around housing, it has grown to a broad-based,
73-member organization that has become a successful advocate for local
housing and smart-growth issues. Through its committees, SFHAC focuses on
endorsement of residential projects as well as housing policy and
legislation. Special emphasis is placed on transit-oriented development,
strong neighborhood planning and a moderate policy course that seeks to
balance many competing factions.\n\nThe SFHAC Housing Forum: A New
Generation of Housing Leaders will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2008,
from 7:30 am – 10:30 am at the Mission Bay Conference Center located at
1675 Owens Street. Tickets for the event are free for SFHAC members and $10
per person for the general public. To RSVP for this event or to learn more,
please contact Meredyth Skemp at meredyth@sfhac.org. For more information
 on the SFHAC, visit www.sfhac.org.\n\n
