DESCRIPTION:We will be showcasing:\n\n- " And if Iron Stand In Our Way " (6 min.) - A
brief look at women across generations who have been involved in the
crossing of people across the barriers of the U.S./Mexico border. It seeks
to demystify some of the various myths that surround Coyotes. This short
is a work in progress and will eventually be a feature documentary.\n \n -
"The Homies" (9 min.) - A funny attempt at bringing up issues of youth,
identity, & police brutality, among others. This short was done with the
little "Homies" characters. Film produced in collaboration with ORALE
(Organizing Around Limited Education).\n\n- "CCAP - California Coalition
Against Poverty" (7 min.) - This short shows some of the work that CCAP has
done in relation to housing, immigration, anti-war, & labor, among other
issues. The film features footage of various anti-war rallies,
pro-immigrant marches, and other organizing and resistance efforts across
San Diego.\n\n- "Beyond the Bling: Going Back to the Roots of Hip-Hop" (9
min.) - This documentary short questions the authenticity of mainstream
hip-hop by taking a look at what is being spewed by MTV vs. the hip-hop of
The Coup & Prophets of Rage. The Coup is an Oakland-based hip-hop group
featuring Boots & DJ Pam the Funktress, both who have a long history of
community organizing against police brutality in Oakland. Prophets of Rage
are a Puerto Rican hip-hop group that uses its voice to bring about
awareness of the military presence and destruction of the community of
Vieques, Puerto Rico. \n\nThe top four films were done by The Reel
Guerrillaz Kollective - A progressive multi-media collective that focuses
on critical thought and bringing light to the many social issues and
injustices that are faced by subaltern communities everywhere around the
globe. This collective originated in the Bay Area, but has contributors
from Oakland, Berkeley, L.A. & San Diego, including Monica Hernandez and
Leticia Gomez. \n\n\n"Cafe en La Calle" (5 min.) - A film done by the
youth in Cafe en la Calle that explains what they are about and shows the
work they do around the many social justice issues that face us as a
 community.\n\n"Semillas del Pueblo" (10 min.) - A film about an L.A.
charter school that was attacked by right-wing radio hosts and unanimous
bomb threats for their indigenous-based curriculum. \n\n"Arte en Barrio
Logan" (10 min.) - This film was done by students from the Media Arts
Center, including Nadia Cruz Tapia and Stephanie Romero. It is part of a
collection of stories from the community of Logan. We will be showcasing
the piece that focuses on art and culture on that community.

communities, also by Leticia Talavera.\n\n"Keep it Alive; Keep it Real" (8
