DESCRIPTION:Attention Sisters & Brothers:\n\nSETTLE OUR CONTRACT NOW PICKET:\nOur
 patients, students and families can't wait!\nThursday, Feb 28th 3:00 - 5:00
PM\nUCSC Baytree Bookstore\n\nTHIS IS A CRITICAL POINT IN THE BARGAINING
PROCESS. IN ORDER TO SHOW UC WE CARE, STUDENTS NEED TO COME OUT IN FORCE TO
SUPPORT WORKERS!\n\nMembers and allies of the American Federation of State
County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3299 at the University of
California are demanding a FAIR CONTRACT NOW. UC has been refusing to agree
to fair market standards for the 20,000 patient care and service workers at
all UC campuses and medical centers. A mediator has been brought in to the
negotiations, but UC still has not budged. UC's below market standards are
hurting UCSC workers and the broader Monterey Bay Community - we say
enough!\n\n* UC workers still have not been brought up to market rate
standards and struggle to make ends meet. UC is a world class institution
that needs to prioritize the front line staff who deliver student and
patient care services. AFSCME members work hard and deserve fair treatment
including longevity salary steps guaranteed benefits.\n\n* UC is replacing
full-time career jobs with un-benefited per diem positions or hiring
subcontracted, non-union temporary workers who have little experience
working at UC.\n\n* UC has been taking advantage of working students by
hiring them to do the same work as our members for less pay and benefits.
In Santa Barbara only 38 career Food Service jobs remain because the other
positions have been replaced with student workers. UC Santa Cruz management
has been attempting similar erosions of good, union-represented jobs.\n\n*
Contracted jobs create a second class of workers at UC, usually with lower
wages and benefits. This undercuts the wage and benefits standards we
fought hard for at UC. \n\nPlease join us on the picket line (rain or
shine) to demand protections for good jobs and fair market standards for UC
workers!\n\nSETTLE OUR CONTRACT NOW PICKET:\nOur patients, students and
