DESCRIPTION:FEB 12 (Tuesday)\nHard Road Home (film)\nSee the hard-hitting,
heartbreaking, uplifting, and insightful documentary HARD ROAD HOME at
Grand Lake Theater in Oakland 6-9 pm (film 7-8:15 pm), a project of Auburn
Seminary.\nThe film explores one of the most difficult issues facing our
vast, and growing, prison population: WHAT\nTO DO WHEN YOU GET OUT. HARD
ROAD HOME tells a searing and compelling story about some who beat the
odds.\n\nJulio Medina, a drug-dealing gang leader when he went to Sing Sing
prison, left 12 years later a changed\nman. He had graduated from the only
MA program in religion run inside prison walls. He created
Exodus\nTransitional Community, an amazing program run by men and women
formerly incarcerated and dedicated to breaking the downward cycle of
recidivism.\n\nThe film follows two members of Exodus. It shows us the
extraordinary energy, resources, and strength of\ncharacter required to
save even one person from returning. We see how the dedication of
caring\nindividuals can help people beat the odds.\n\nJulio and some of the
filmmaking team will be here for the premiere, 6-9 pm Tues Feb 12.\n\nAfter
the film, a panel, with Laura Magnani, author of Beyond Prisons: a New
Interfaith Paradigm for our\nFailed Prison System
 (http://www.quakerbooks.org/beyond_prisons.php), Julio, Dorsey Nunn,
Marilyn Washington and Shanell Williams will discuss the film and re-entry
issues with the audience.\n\nThis is an important opportunity to learn how
your community can be part of the solution to the prison\ncrisis in
California.\n\nCo-sponsors: Faith Voices for the Common Good the American
Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the Howard Thurman Center for
Spirituality and Social Justice, and Starr King School for the Ministry.
 Join us for a great evening!\n\nFFI: 510-459-5123. Tickets $10, with a
suggested donation of $20, so all who want to attend can come\n(funds will
go to All of Us or None (http://www.allofusornone.org) for their Ban the
Box campaign and to local re-entry programs). Bulk rates for groups.\n
