meets at the office.\n(back to top)\nWed\nFeb 13\n3 -7 PM Save the Day!
Save St. Luke's! Join the day of action being planned to save St. Luke's
Hospital. California Pacific Medical Center and the Sutter Healthcare
hospital chain (CPMC/Sutter) plan to convert St. Luke's Hospital to just
outpatient clinics, and transfer hospital care to CPMC facilities in richer
parts of town where it can make more money. St. Luke's has at least a 6-7
times higher proportion of poor and minority patients than CPMC's other
facilities. Read more. Today, CPMC is closing its Newborn Intensive Care
Unit, so babies born at St. Luke's with severe respiratory and other
problems will have to be transported across town to other CPMC facilities.
Closing St. Luke's as a hospital is a racist attack on the poor because it
would leave South-East San Francisco, low-income, largely minority, and
already without sufficient medical facilities, with only SF General
Hospital, which is already over-crowded. Location: 3555 Cesar Chavez (at
Valencia, map, 14, 26, 27 buses) Read more. Sign on-line petition. Join the
community coalition to save St. Luke's Hospital. More information: Jane
