DESCRIPTION:On Feb. 1st, the youth board at Youth Speaks, SPOKES, would like to invite 
 any and all youth to join them in a reception from 5:30-6:30pm at the 
 Heller Lounge at UC Berkeley featuring Youth Speaks poets, Cal reps, and 
 dozens of bay area youth activists/organizations! We'll have a live DJ and 
 free food too! \n\nThe reception will act as the gateway for a concert that 
 is taking\nplace at 7pm. The concert will feature some of the finest 
 socially\nconscious spoken word and hip-hop artists in the nation, as well 
 as student artists and a panel on the history of activism at Cal\nfeaturing 
 leaders from students' movements from the 1960s through today.\n\nPanelists 
 will include Bettina Aptheker of the Free Speech Movement and Jeff Chang, 
 American Book Award Winning author of Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of 
 the Hip-Hop Generation, and leader in the anti-apartheid movement of the 
 1980s.\n\nThe concert will feature artists including:\nZion I 
 (www.zionicrew.com)\nAmmo (champions of the 2007 Youth and Collegiate 
 National Poetry Slams)\nSiren's Echo (www.sirensechomusic.com)\nKatie 
 Wirsing (www.myspace.com/katiewirsing) and Andrea 
 Gibson\n(www.myspace.com/andreagibson)\nGabriel Teodros 
 (www.myspace.com/gabrielteodros)\nand iLL-Literacy ( 
 www.thisisill.com).\n\nThe night will be hosted by Marc Bamuthi 
 Joseph\n(www.myspace.com/bamuthi), a National Poetry Slam Champion, HBO Def 
 Poet, Rockefeller Foundation US Artists Fellow, Smithsonian Magazine 
 Innovator, and Artistic Director of Youth Speaks, the leading presenter of 
 spoken word educational programming in the nation, and one of the 
 organizations co-sponsoring this festival.\n\nThe goal of this day is to 
 catalyze a student community dedicated to cross-cultural organizing, 
 political engagement and service. The festival will involve over thirty 
 different student organizations and communities, as well as youth and 
 community organizations from throughout the Bay Area.\n\nCheck the flyer at
