DESCRIPTION:ANSWER Activist Meeting\nEyewitness Palestine\nIsrael's occupation of
Palestinian territories: Quest for security or land grab?\n\nJoin us for a
presentation and slide show by writer and activist, Sharat G. Lin, who
recently returned from Palestine. \n\nThe Israeli government and its U.S.
supporters cite security as the paramount reason for the West Bank barrier
restricting Palestinian access to population centers. Yet more barriers are
being built dividing Palestinian from Palestinian. Why? Israeli settlements
continue to be built and expanded on the Palestinian side of the barrier.
The number of military checkpoints has risen to over 550 in the West Bank.
What are the real reasons for the so-called "security" or "separation"
barrier?\n\nDr. Sharat G. Lin examines the nature of the Israeli occupation
policies in East Jerusalem, Hebron, Qalqiliyah, and Gaza, and how they are
reshaping the West Bank. He argues that security will follow only after the
elimination of the Israeli occupation, apartheid, land segmentation,
inequality and control, and an end to U.S. political and military support.
The occupation of Palestine parallels that of Iraq—reduce violence by
eliminating the primary cause of that violence—the U.S. military
occupation, which is the direct or indirect target of over 80 per cent of
insurgent attacks.\n\nSharat G. Lin writes on global political economy, the
Middle East, India, labor migration, public health, and the environment. He
has lived for many years in the Middle East.\n
