DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this compelling portrayal of Mr. Aristizabal's
experiences as a political prisoner and torture survivor. In the 1980s,
Hector was arrested and repeatedly tortured by the US-supported Colombian
military. Following his release, his strident calls for justice and
accountability made him an even greater target for government harassment,
forcing him to flee his native country. \n\nToday, Mr. Aristizabal uses
participatory theater and dialogue as tools to increase public awareness of
global human rights abuses. In particular, he has been a leading figure in
the movement aimed at closing the School of the Americas. \n\nFollowing his
performance, Hector will engage the audience in a dynamic meditation
utilizing Image Theater to challenge participants to imagine, and advocate
for, alternatives to torture. \n\nThis event is co-sponsored by the
American Friends Service Committee and the University of San Francisco's
 Human Rights Working Group.\n
