DESCRIPTION:STOP ALAMEDA POLICE HARASSMENT OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN YOUTH\n\nWho: East Bay
advocates, youth and their families\n\nWhat: Rally & Press conference to
demand police accountability\n\nWhere: In front of the City of Alameda
 Police Department, 1555 Oak St,\nAlameda, CA 94501 \n\nWhen: Tuesday,
 November 27th, 2007 at 4:30 PM\n\nBackground: 3 tragedies within the Asian
Pacific Islander community within\nthe last three weeks- -\n\n1.
Ichinkhorloo Bayarsaikhan, a 16 year old Malaysian youth, was murdered
in\na park in Alameda on Halloween night.\n\nOur hearts go out to the
families of Ichinkhorloo Bayarsaikhan. No family\nshould have to suffer the
loss that their family has suffered whether in\nAlameda or Oakland. Too
many of our young people have been victims of\nhomicide. We must work
together to find real solutions that address the\nroot causes of violence
in our community.\n\n 2. Alameda Police Department terrorizes Southeast
Asian youth in Oakland\ninstead of doing a true investigation of the
murder.\n\nAlameda Police busted down the doors of Southeast Asian families
and held\nthem at gun point with M-16s, detained over a half dozen young
people\nwithout notifying their parents, pulled students out of school to
be\ninterrogated based on being in a photo with the suspects, and accused
them\nof being in a gang due to holding up peace signs in a photo from an
anti-war\nmarch. \n\n3. Media News editors did not uphold journalistic
ethics and did not tell\nthe full story behind the investigation of the
murder.\n\nIn a shocking breach of journalistic ethics, at least 4 Bay Area
newspapers\nowned by the Media News Group published the names of two minors
in\nconnection with the Oct 31st killing of Ichinkhorloo Bayarsaikhan
in\nAlameda, though the sitting judge on the case asked them not
to.\n\nThough the youth were violently arrested, wrongfully charged, and
quickly\nreleased, Media News editors continued to report unsubstantiated
police\nstatements of their possible "gang affiliations" and relationships
with\nthose later arrested for the crime.\n\nYouth and Asian and Pacific
Islander Community Members are calling for an\nindependent investigation of
the incidents and ask the Alameda Police\nDepartment to establish rules and
training to prevent racial profiling\ntactics. \n\nFor More Information
