 collection explores the story of California from the First Peoples through 
 the Gold Rush. Through a display of art and artifacts, experience the rich 
 history, diverse beginnings, and artistic and cultural heritage of early

 2\nAncient Roots/ Urban Journeys\nExhibition closes\nAncient Roots/ Urban 
 Journeys: Expressions for Días de los Muertos Anjee Helstrup Alvarez, 
 associate director/curator of Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana 
 (MACLA), is guest curator of the museum's 2007 Days of the Dead exhibition. 
 This year's Días de los Muertos exhibition reveals a journey between 
 ancient and urban expressions that connect people to an evolving cultural 
 legacy. The artworks––created by artists, schools, and community 
 groups––will range from traditional Oaxacan-style altars to current 
 interpretations that connect to ancient forms, as well as those that use 
 popular and urban ways of expression, including graffiti and lowrider- and
