DESCRIPTION:Discussion of Vijay Prashad's recent book "Darker Nations"\nSunday, Nov. 4,
 10 a.m. • Presented by Eddie Yuen\nFree event.\n\nWhat was the Third
World? What are the origins of the term and what political, discursive, and
cultural roles did it play during the Cold War? How and why did the concept
go into decline and be replaced by cultural nationalism and religious
fundamentalism in much of the "Global South"? These and many other
questions are discussed in Vijay Prashads's acclaimed new book. This
mornings session will briefly summarize Prashad's book (participants are
encouraged to read it in advance if possible) and proceed to discuss many
of the issues raised by it. Class, nationality, culture, gender, religion,
marxism, neo-colonialism and utopia all intersect in this important and
fascinating book.\n\n\nEddie Yuen is a local teacher, writer and editor. He
is coeditor, with George Katsiaficas and Daniel Burton-Rose, of
"Confronting Capitalism: Dispatches From A Global Movement," Soft Skull
 Press, 2003.\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2007/10/29/18456888.php
