 (鬼\n子来了)\n\n \nAward-winning\n2000 Chinese black comedy produced 
 and directed by Jiang\nWen,\nstarring Jiang himself, set in the shadow of 
 the Great Wall during the\nfinal\nmonths of the Japanese occupation.  By 
 turns incongruously hilarious\nand\ngrotesquely shocking, it staggers the 
 mind, a film of much complexity\nthat will\nresonate with any thinking 
 viewer. Shot in rich, shadowy\nblack-and-white, Devils\nchronicles, with 
 increasingly amused irony, the relationship between\nreluctant\ncaptors and 
 befuddled captives.  It concerns much more than the\nspecific\ntime and 
 place it encompasses, acting as a powerful indictment of the\nburdens\nof 
 war on a civilian population. While acknowledging that war is hell,\nit 
 goes\nfurther to suggest it is ludicrous.\n\n\nPLUS thrilling and funny 
 short\nfilms, an\nintermission, and great company.\n\n \nFriday\nAugust
