DESCRIPTION:Next Planning Meeting for Globalize This!:\nSunday, August 19 at 1:00
p.m.\nRevolution Cafe at 3248 22nd Street between Valencia and Mission
[MAP].\n\nGlobalize This! is a new group looking to coalesce activists,
community organizers, and other organizations in the Bay Area in opposition
to corporate globalization and so-called 'free trade' agreements. \n\nFree
trade institutions such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) and treaties such as NAFTA and the Free
Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) are protecting wealth and solidifying the
power of multinational corporations at the expense of the environment,
workers rights, the indigenous, people of color, and the poor.
\n\nGlobalize This! seeks to coordinate activities, events, actions, and
public forums that will help raise awareness about the negative impacts of
 neo-liberal policies (i.e., pro-corporate globalization), develop
innovative campaigns to build a diverse activist base and deliver concrete
results in the struggle against the corporate globalization agenda, and
work in solidarity with other anti-globalization groups world-wide.\n\nIt
is time to take these grassroots organizing efforts to the next level in
preparation for the next big battle against free trade set to take place in
Costa Rica on October 7, when Costa Rican voters will have the chance to
accept or reject the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade
Agreement (DR-CAFTA). This opportunity is historic as it is the first time
a voting population anywhere in the world has had the chance to vote on a
free trade agreement.\n\nCosta Rican organizations have been reaching out
to people in North America to act in solidarity with their struggle against
DR-CAFTA and to procure further support in preparation for the October
referendum--but time is short.\n\nOur present campaigns are focused on work
in conjunction with Costa Rican organizations to defeat CAFTA at the ballot
box in October as well as to plan in preparation for the No Border Camp in
November. \n\nCampaign planning will focus around:\n-	Drafting a media
strategy and press releases\n-	Planning and coordinating anti-globalization
 events\n-	Community outreach \n-	Web design\n-	Translation\n-	Post-October
initiatives including the No Border Camp in November\n\nIf you are
interested in becoming a part of Globalize This! and helping out with this
or future campaigns, email us at info [at] globalizethissf.org or just
come to our next planning meeting Sunday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. at
Revolution Cafe in the Mission at 3248 22nd Street between Valencia and
Mission.\n\nOTRO MUNDO ES POSIBLE -- ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE\n
