DESCRIPTION:"MONTAÑA DE LUZ" (Mountain of Light)\n\nCUBAN DOCTORS AIDING LATIN AMERICA
& AFRICA: The Cuban documentary “Montaña de Luz”—produced by ICAIC
(Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos)—follows Cuban
doctors working in collaboration with the communities throughout Latin
America and Africa. The doctors work for no pay in areas of the world where
there is either no medical care available or where the few local doctors
are unable to meet the enomorus need, as in the case of the AIDS epidemic
in Namibia and flood victims in Haiti. \n\nThe Cuban doctors often work
alongside medical interns returning to their home country from Cuba after
graduating from medical school. In Cuba, free medical training is provided
for any student—the only requirement being that the student return to
their home country and use their skills working within the most opporessed
communities. Beyond the material aid the Cubans give, they also provide an
important example that another world is possible. A world where care
replaces the drive for profit. The film carries with it a deep message of
internationalism, solidarity and humanism. \nDirected by Guillermo Centeno,
2005, 53min, Spanish w/ English subtitles. \n\nSponsored by Party for
 Socialism & Liberation.\n
