DESCRIPTION:PSL Film Screening & Discussion\n“Welcome to New Orleans”\n\nWhy is the
wealthiest country in the world incapable of evacuating a population in the
face of a natural disaster? And continues to neglect the displaced people's
needs even to this day? \n\nJoin us for a film screening and discussion of
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina from a Marxist perspective and hear
about the continuing struggle of the people of New Orleans for
justice.\n\nThe film "Welcome to New Orleans" documents the crisis in the
devastated city just days after Hurricane Katrina. The city of New Orleans
is a ghost town. Those that remain are still subject to abject poverty and
virulent racism. The filmmaker follows former Black Panther and co-founder
of the Common Ground Collective, Malik Rahim and documents the racist
vigilantes that terrorize the Black population who are trying to survive.
The film starts in the days just after the hurricane, and takes us on a
journey to poor Black neighborhoods where the mainstream media never goes.
We meet despair, hate and hope—despite all. Directed by Rasmus Holm,
 58min., 2006\n\nSponsored by the Party for Socialism & Liberation\n\n\n
