DESCRIPTION:Artist Talk & Slide Presentation\n\nArtist Talk with Taraneh Hemami\n&
 Slide Presentation with Sana Makhoul\n\nSaturday June 16, 2007 @ 2pm,
FREE\n\nArtist Taraneh Hemami has been exhibiting and teaching in the Bay
Area since 1991. Her\nwork has ranged from large, personal paintings to
intimate book arts, from sculptures to\ninstallations, from performances to
digital sound pieces. Join Hemami for a discussion\nabout her new work and
exhibition currently on view, Most Wanted. This is followed by a\nslide
presentation by Sana Makhoul entitled In the Middle of..., which looks at
the\nvisual images used throughout history at times of war to impact people
and construct\nstereotypes. Makhoul specifically examines the
misrepresentation of and stereotyping of\nArabs and Muslims in many public
arenas, from television and cinema to newspapers and the\nfine arts. This
talk will examine these images and how contemporary artists are\naddressing
them.\n\n------\n\nFilm Screening Curated by Sana Makhoul\n\nFeaturing
Edward Said: On Orientalism &\nIntroduction to the End of an
 Argument\n\nWednesday June 27, 2007 @ 7pm\n$5-$15/sliding scale, general
admission\n\nIntersection for the Arts teams up with curator Sana Makhoul
to present a film screening\nfeaturing two films presented in conjunction
with Most Wanted, the latest exhibition on\nview in our gallery.\n\nEdward
Said: On Orientalism includes an engaging and lavishly illustrated
interview with\nthe late Edward Said, whose book Orientalism has been
profoundly influential in a diverse\nrange of disciplines since its
publication in 1978. Said talks about the context within\nwhich the book
was conceived, its main themes, and how its original thesis relates to
the\ncontemporary understanding of "the Orient" as represented in the mass
media.\n\nIntroduction to the End of an Argument features a combination of
film, documentary news\ncoverage, and excerpts of "live" footage shot in
the West Bank and Gaza strip. This film\ncritiques representations of the
Middle East, Arab culture, and the Palestinian people\nproduced by the
 West.\n\n\nIntersection for the Arts\n446 Valencia Street\nSan Francisco,
