DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nA Guerilla Drive-In special event.  A magical night along the tracks
in\nan impromptu hobo jungle. \n\nCome prepared to stay late and share
what you have with other hobos. \n\n\nSanta\nCruz GDI Presents...\n\n\nThe
 Santa Cruz\nGuerilla Drive-In\nHobo Film Festival\n\nFriday June 8th,
8:00pm\n  Railroad Tracks at Fair Ave, Santa Cruz\n\n(Always
Free!)\n\n\nFor one night we turn the GDI Fair Ave railroad tracks location
into a\nhobo jungle for a late-into the night hobo film festival.  We
will\nfeature train riding shorts, documentaries, and feature
films,\nincluding:\n\nFree Ride - a charming and engaging documentary about
punks and\nactivist youths who ride the rails to hobo gatherings,
eco-defense\nactions, and just for the love of it.  Includes a few folks
you may\nhave seen around town.  Directed by David Murphy.\n\n\nLong Gone
 - filmmakers David Eberhardt and Jack Cahill spent\nseven years riding the
rails, asking for spare change and swapping\nstories around campfires with
train hoppers. Their labors are repaid\nwith a mesmerizing documentary full
of touching characters and\nbeautiful landscapes.  Long Gone poignantly
captures a marginalized\nhomeless group for which misconceptions have far
too often prevailed\nand shows that the yearning for community doesn't
change much from\nperson to person, even if the definition of community
does.\n\nTrain on the Brain - filmmaker Alison Murray travels on
freight\ntrains across Canada and the US, getting to know a community of
train\nriders, especially the many girls riding the rails.  A
realistic\nportrait of the highs and lows of modern hobo life including
slow\ntrains, dismal weather, police abuse, and the challenges presented
by\nyour traveling companions.\n\nEmperor of the North - drawing
inspiration from Jack London's\nadventures traveling with hobos aboard
trains throughout the U.S., this\ngritty Depression-era drama features
outstanding performances from Lee\nMarvin. Ernest Borgnine is a cruel
railroad agent who makes it his\npersonal mission to rid the world of hobos
out for a free ride.\n\n\nAnd more...\n\nPLUS subversive shorts, a hobo
jungle in the urban wasteland,\nand great company. \n\nBRING food and drink
to share, your hobo stories, your bedroll,\nblankets, pillows, friends.
Donations are greatly appreciated and\ndirectly support the
project.\n\nSANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie theater
under\nthe stars that springs up in the fields and industrial
wastelands. \nBeyond showing great movies and bringing a broad community
together,\npart of our mission is helping reclaim public space and
 transforming\nour urban environment into a joyful playground.\n\n \nURBAN
