DESCRIPTION:Please join the NAFCON, League of Filipino Students, babae, Anakbayan, and 
 the San Francisco Chapter of APALA (Asian Pacific Labor Alliance), and 
 other Filipino community members in welcoming Judge Fred Ampuan to the Bay 
 Area and holding a discussion on the current political situation in the 
 Philippines, especially the Philippine elections, progressive partylists, 
 and political killings.\n \nJudge Ampuan, as a member of CODAL - Counsels 
 for the Deference of Liberties, was also a delegate to 2007 National 
 Convention of the Bayan Muna Partylist.  BAYAN MUNA, the top vote-getter in 
 the last 2 elections have also lost close to 100 members due to 
 extrajudicial killings and abductions.\n \nCurrently, Judge Ampuan serves 
 as the Presiding Judge of the Metropolitan Trial Court, Branch 33.  He is a 
 former Human Rights Attorney in Bicol, served as a District Atty in the 
 Visayas. Judge Ampuan is the Chairperson of the FRIENDS OF SAMAR/LEYTE ( 
 FSL ), an organization formed during the height of Palparan's stay in said 
 region when the area became heavily militarized and when numerous local 
 social activists were tortured, disappeared, and killed.    Judge Ampuan 
 will be sharing his insights on the justice system in the Philippines, the 
 upcoming May elections, and the human rights situation in Easter Visayas 
 where he directly witnessed the spate of political killings under General 
 Palparan's reighn.\n \nJudge Ampuan received his law degree at UST-  
 University of Santo Thomas.  His other affiliations include: Bicol 
 Concerned Teachers Alliance, UGOP Waraynon , Philippine Society of 
 Agricultural Engineers, Philippine Association of Physics Instructors, 
 National Prosecutors League of the Philippines, Free and Accepted Masons of 
 the Philippines, and World Jurists Association.\n\n\n
