DESCRIPTION:Department of Homeland Security just announced at their website, they will
hold a "public" meeting on May 1st at UC Davis campus on REAL ID. It's
ompletely insensitive and cruel for the DHS to quietly hold a racist
anti-immigrant meeting at the date of the historical national day of
immigrant mobilization! \n\n---------\nThe DHS has issued this statement
about the meeting:\n\n"The Department of Homeland Security, Office of the
Secretary, will hold a public meeting to receive comments on the Notice of
Proposed Rulemaking, ''Minimum Standards for Driver's Licenses and
Identification Cards Acceptable by Federal Agencies for Official
Purposes,'' published in the Federal Register on March 9, 2007 (72 FR
10820). We encourage interested parties to attend the meeting and submit
comments for discussion during the meeting. In addition, we will also seek
comments via email for discussion during the meeting from any party who is
unable to attend in person. The webcast of the public meeting will be
viewable at http://www.realidtownhall.com "\n\nAccording to the
DHS:\nDATES: Public Meeting: We will hold the meeting on May 1, 2007, from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.\n\nADDRESSES: We will hold the meeting in Freeborn Hall
on the campus of the University of California, Davis. The university is
located in the City of Davis, approximately 11 miles west of downtown
Sacramento. The street address for Freeborn Hall is 104 Freeborn Hall, One
Shields Ave., Davis, CA 95616.\n\n \nFOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: For
information concerning this public meeting, please contact Mike Kangior,
U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Washington, DC 20528, at
202–282–8939.\n\nFor more information about the meeting:
http://tinyurl.com/3ar4s4 "\n \n--------\nGiven the fact that most Davis
area immigrant activists didn't know about the upcoming meeting. It's clear
that DHS is not interest about the public opinion, since they are holding
the meeting at campus during the mid-date to avoid community and public
participation, and just like other past government-sponsored immigrant
meetings, they just want to see a small groups of pre-selected
anti-immigrant groups to speak and testify, so it could making like
majority of public opinions "support" government's racist anti-immigrant
legislation.\n \nWe encourage community activists from Davis and around
areas to mobilize to attend the meeting at UC Davis, and raise our loud and
strong voice about NO TO THE RACIST READ ID at the May Day immigrants
mobilization!\n\nThere will ALSO be a rally for UC WORKER RIGHTS going on
from 11am to 1pm right down the street, so many activists will be otherwise
occupied. PLEASE PLEASE come out and speak your mind on the issues at
 hand!\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2007/04/26/18405698.php
