DESCRIPTION:Do you oppose the war? Why help pay for it?\n\nMore than half of our 
 federal income taxes are used for militarism, but for people whose 
 conscience will not allow them to willingly support war and military 
 funding, there may be an answer. On Thursday evening, May 10, find out more 
 about how to conduct this form of conscientious objection.\n\nPeace Action 
 of San Mateo County will host Susan Quinlan from Northern California War 
 Tax Resistance, who will talk about the variety of ways we as citizens can 
 avoid paying taxes that support our country's war effort. Whether income or 
 long distance phone tax, there are ways for citizens to follow their 
 conscience and avoid - initially at least - supporting situations such as 
 the disastrous Iraq war and occupation and the possible duplication in 
 Iran. Many of these methods are completely legal.\n\nThe presentation will 
 include a slide show, personal stories, methods and consequences, questions 
 and answers. There will be a variety of literature available as 
 well.\n\nTopics will include:\n- Creative legal protests\n- Refusing to pay 
 all or part of federal taxes\n- Possible consequences of this form of civil 
 disobedience\n- Living below the level of taxable income\n- Phone tax 
 resistance\n- Redirecting resisted taxes to local alternative funds and/or 
 community organizations\n- Local support networks for war tax
