DESCRIPTION:"Iraq, Iran & the Bush Agenda: The Danger of Wider War, the Challenge of
Preventing It, and the Urgency of a New Global Dynamic" \nSpeech and
Discussion by Larry Everest, write for Revolution Newspaper and author of
Oil, Power & Empire: Iraq and the US Global Agenda \n\nThe talk will
highlight the growing danger of ongoing war in Iraq and escalation to Iran,
rooted in an analysis of the specifics of the Bush global agenda, as well
as the deeper social, political and economic forces (in the US and
globally) that have given rise to it -- and the particularity of the
historic moment today. It will also assess the urgent need for, the
obstacles to, and the potential for a new wave of resistance capable of
reversing the Bush agenda and creating a new global political and
ideological dynamic. \nThis event is wheelchair accessible. \n**** \nLarry
Everest is the author of Oil, Power & Empire: Iraq and the U.S. Global
Agenda from Common Courage Press (2004), a book Dan Ellsberg calls
"remarkable, horrifying, brilliantly illuminating." He helped organize the
2005-2006 International Commission of Inquiry on Crimes Against Humanity by
the Bush Administration ( www.bushcommission.org) and is a contributor to a
new book: Impeach the President: the Case Against Bush and Cheney , from
Seven Stories Press. \nEverest has covered the Middle East and Central Asia
for over 25 years as a contributing writer to Revolution newspaper,
reporting from Iraq, Iran, Iranian and Iraqi Kurdestan, the Palestinian
West Bank and Gaza, and India. His articles and commentaries have appeared
regularly in Z Magazine and Pacific News Service, as well as in
publications across the country, including the Boston Globe, Los Angeles
Times, Oakland Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, and other newspapers. He
has appeared on many radio and TV programs including CSPAN's Book-TV, NPR's
"All Things Considered," and Pacifica's "Democracy Now." \nIn 1986, Everest
wrote Behind the Poison Cloud: Union Carbide's Bhopal Massacre, based on
his on-the-scene investigation. In 1991, he traveled to Iraq following the
Persian Gulf War and shot the award-winning video Iraq: War Against the
People. In June 2005, he testified on the history of U.S./U.K. intervention
in Iraq at the culminating session of the World Tribunal on Iraq in
 Istanbul, Turkey.\n\n
