DESCRIPTION:Come join Green Planet Films for another film night! We will be screening
two short documentary films that feature two very unique and beautiful
parts of the world: the deserts of Syria and the Tuamotus Atolls in the
South Pacific. Both films highlight the indigenous people living in these
remote areas and expose the environmental and social problems that plague
them. \n\nGiuseppe Bucciarelli, the writer, director and producer of AHMED
AND THE RETURN OF THE ARAB PHOENIX will be in attendance to present his
film and answer questions.\n\nBeer and wine will be available for purchase.
Socializing at 7:00pm, films start at 8:00pm.\n\nA SLOW BOAT TO SOMEWHERE
\nRide along on a rustic, and rusting, Polynesian cargo boat as it makes
deliveries to 21 of the globe's most isolated coral reef atolls in the
heart of the South Pacific Ocean and documents the impacts the the West has
had one these once self sufficient island communities. Along the 3,000-mile
route meet black pearl divers, the man who found the Kon Tiki, Marlon
Brando's "Mutiny on the Bounty" girlfriend, a ship laden with NFL-sized
crewman and many more . . . all set against the backdrop of a
fast-and-forever changing Paradise. Film by Jon Bowermaster. 23
min\n\nAHMED AND THE RETURN OF THE ARAB PHOENIX \nMeet Ahmed, a Bedouin
sheep herder who has committed his life to saving the Bald Ibis, a
critically endangered bird with a face "only a mother could love." The
rapid extinction of this rare bird is the result of increasing human
population, hunting and land degradation. Ahmed and his small team of
fellow Preservationists have made it their mission to save the Bald Ibis,
and inextricably, Ahmed's land and culture. Film by Giuseppe Bucciarelli.
