DESCRIPTION:Nature in the City and a group of committed volunteers are pleased to
announce our plans for McLaren Park Earth Day 2007, a FREE, day-long
celebration at McLaren Park on Sunday, April 22nd. Our mission is to create
a volunteer organized, non-commercial, grassroots Earth Day celebration of
urban nature, intended to dissolve the boundaries that exist between
diverse San Francisco communities. \n\nSan Francisco’s McLaren Park is a
large, ecologically rich natural resource, but it is severely short-staffed
and underappreciated. By inviting people, especially those who live nearby,
to participate, we hope to create a sense of belonging and stewardship at
McLaren Park. \n\nDuring McLaren Park Earth Day 2007, Mclaren Park will
transform into an outdoor classroom. Attendees will gain access to San
Francisco’s environmental leaders including activists, artists,
educators, musicians and scientists. There will be hands-on experiences
like nature walks, restoration projects and talks as well as art
installations, dance, live music, poetry and plays. There will also be an
eco-stewardship fair, a native plant sale, and food and vendor booths.
