DESCRIPTION:THIS SUNDAY! January 28\nPremiere Screening\nLEGACY OF TORTURE: The War
Against the Black Liberation Movement\n12:00 noon at the Roxie Theater 16th
& Valencia, San Francisco\n$8-$25 (no one turned away)\nThirteen alleged
"Black militants" were arrested in New Orleans in\n1973, purportedly in
connection with a 1971 San Francisco police shooting.\nSome of them were
tortured for several days by law enforcement\nauthorities, and in 1975, a
Federal Court in San Francisco threw out all of the evidence obtained in
New Orleans. Fast forward 30+ years...now the same two lead investigators,
along with FBI agents, have re-opened the case. Rather than submit to grand
jury proceedings they felt were abusive of the law and the Constitution,
five men chose to stand in contempt of court and were sent to jail. They
were released when the grand jury term expired, but have been told by
prosecutors that "it isn't over yet."\n\nSeveral of these men were
scheduled to appear at this premiere\nscreening, but unfortunately the
state has now delivered on its threat.\nEarlier today, eight men (including
the grand jury resisters) were\narrested and charged with murder and/or
conspiracy related to the 1971 shooting. Please come out to see the side of
their story that won't be covered in the mainstream media, and support
 these men's defense.\n
