DESCRIPTION:CRISIS IN BAJA CALIFORNIA\n\nThe Seri, Mayo, Pima, Yaki and Tohono
O’odham Indigenous communities are under assault by the Mexican
government, stealing their water causing death and harm to their children
and elders. \n\nHave Dinner and See the Film: “KUMIAI: THE LAND” (in
Spanish - with onsight translation)\n\nSee and Hear the story of the
Indigenous Peoples of Sonora, and participate in a crossborder Q&A session
with a Commandante of the Indigenous Resistance in Baja. Session to be
 facilitated by Indigenous activists from both North and South America;
Wanbli Watakpe (Russ Redner) – NorCalAIM, and DJ Tania – Berkeley
Liberation Radio.\n\nFurther information on the Struggle in
Sonora:\n\nWanbli Watakpe and DJ Tania work in support of the Indigenous
peoples of Baja where they live, in furtherance of their much needed water
project. The peoples in struggle are calling for unity in our movement,
and welcome crossborder solidarity and support for all those in struggle.
\n\nIf you'd like to help two communities in Sonora, Mexico: the Yaki
community of Potam and the other one in Pima community of Quipor, in their
water project... all contributions (labor, solidarity, donations, support)
are welcome! \n\nIn Quipor local landowners have deviated a stream that
provided water for drinking and domestic use. Right now the indigenous
communities are left to using just rain water that remains where the stream
used to run.\n\nPotam is semi-desertic and temps reach over 95 F, causing
many health problems due to dehydration, particularly affecting children
during the dry season when the most intense heat lasts for 4 to 5 months.
The most urgent goal of the water project (which simply is trying to supply
water to these communities) is to avoid children’s deaths for
dehydration.\n\nOther Projects and Means of Support (A note from DJ Tania &
Russ): \n•	Radio transmission - for the most isolated indigenous
communities in Baja California and Sonora, "We’re off to a good start
thanks to BLR that donated their spare equipment for one radio station, BUT
we need; mics, mixer and anything else that would help start other radio
stations" for the isolated people of the region.\n\n•	Getting their press
going to print their indigenous news paper covering these isolated tribes,
and their struggles.\n \n•	Help to finish the health clinic project that
will serve the Seri, Mayo, Tohono O’odham and several other tribes (20
communities of 10 different tribes of Baja California and Sonora)
\n\n•	Help in organizing the Alternative Meeting of Border Peoples in
 August 2007.\n\n- Viva La Lucha!\n
