DESCRIPTION:For Immediate Release\n\nJanuary 22, 2007\n\nLOS ANGELES,SAN
FRANCISCO\n\nMEDICAL CANNABIS PATIENTS, ADVOCATES MARCH ON CITY HALL -
DEMAND END TO\nDEA RAIDS - CALL ON SPEAKER PELOSI TO OPEN CONGRESSIONAL
HEARINGS\n\n\nContacts: Degé Coutee, Education Director - Patient
 Advocacy Network (Los\nAngeles), 323/334-5282
patientadvocates@riseup.net\nShona Gochenaur, Executive Director - Axis of
 Love San Francisco,\n415/240-5247 axisoflovesf@gmail.com\n\nMedical
cannabis patients, care providers and advocates will march on city\nhalls
in Los Angeles and San Francisco Monday, January 22nd, 2007 at noon
in\nreaction to the recent DEA raids on 11 medical cannabis\ndispensaries
last week in West Hollywood, Venice and the San Fernando\nValley.\n\nSan
Francisco advocates will meet at noon at the federal building at 450 Golden
Gate\nfor a march to San Francisco city hall.\n\n"We stand in solidarity,"
states Shona Gochenaur, director for the San\nFrancisco-based patient
advocacy organization, Axis of Love, "West\nHollywood is our sister city,"
where five of the raids took place. Like\nSan Francisco, West Hollywood
has medical cannabis regulations, a lowest\nlaw enforcement priority
ordinance for adult possession and is an\nestablished sanctuary city for
medical cannabis. "If the DEA is going to\ndisregard West Hollywood's
regulations and sanctuary status, they'll\nconsider raiding San Francisco
as well," adds Shona.\n\n"In addition to seeking answers from our local
officials regarding\ncomments made by LAPD Chief Bratton to the media about
shutting down\ncollectives in LA, we are also asking our officials to
contact Speaker\nNancy Pelosi and ask her to open congressional hearings on
medical\ncannabis," states Degé Coutee, director for the Patient Advocacy
Network\nin Los Angeles. "Regardless of the support we gain on the local
level it\nultimately means nothing to the feds until congress really takes
hold of\nthis issue."\n\nPatients and advocates across the United States
are being urged to contact\nSpeaker Pelosi and request that congressional
hearings be opened on\nmedical cannabis immediately.\n
