DESCRIPTION:Second Workshop ... - Thursday, January 11, 2007, from 5pm - 8pm, at the
Mitchell Middle School, 2100 Zinfandel Drive, Rancho Cordova \n\nFor more
information, visit the Caltrans alert on their website at ...
http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist3/projects \n\nAs many of you know, CalTrans has
released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) on its proposed
expansion of Highway 50 from Sunrise into central Sacramento. Caltrans is
hosting two public workshops, one in Sacramento tonight and one in Rancho
Cordova tomorrow night, to hear public comment on the project. \n\nFor most
of us living in Sacramento, this may be our best chance to demonstrate the
intensity of community opposition to this project. \n\nPlease come out to
one or both of these workshops to tell Caltrans to not ram any more freeway
lanes through our neighborhoods. \n\nThis is an opportunity to share your
thoughts on the impact of ever-increasing vehicular traffic along the US 50
corridor. Expanding US 50 will bring more cars, more traffic, more air and
noise pollution, and ultimately more congestion and to Sacramento's
neighborhoods. And an expanded US 50 will support more unsustainable sprawl
growth in the suburbs. \n\nECOS continues to push for smart investments in
light rail and other travel modes such as sidewalks, bike lanes and buses,
along the US 50 corridor as the far superior long-term and sustainable
approach to addressing congestion and mobility. \n\nEven if you're not
willing to speak at tonight's or tomorrow's workshop, your presence to
support the speakers is crucial. A strong public showing of opposition is
 politically very important. \n\nAgain ... \n\nThurs, Jan 11\n 5pm-8pm,
Mitchell Middle School, 2100 Zinfandel Drive, in Rancho Cordova \n\nGraham
Brownstein, Executive Director \nEnvironmental Council of Sacramento
