DESCRIPTION:Fifty eight years ago, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a tool to use against oppression
and discrimination. In the wake of a devastating world war, which had
witnessed some of the most barbarous crimes in human history, the Universal
Declaration marked the first time that the rights and freedoms of
individuals were set forth in such detail. It also represented the first
international recognition that human rights and fundamental freedoms are
applicable to every person, everywhere regardless of their nationality. In
this sense, the Universal Declaration was a landmark achievement in world
history. Today, the Declaration continues to affect people's lives and
inspire human rights activism and legislation all over the world. The
United Nations, which consist of all countries in the world, have
acknowledged and signed the Declaration of Human Rights except for two
countries the United State and Israel. TAKE ACTION and DEMAND that the
United States certify the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. JOIN US
at the Justice Corner, where we will march to the Trade Center, Mexican
Consulate to the Federal Building where the Raging Grannies will welcome us
with songs of protests.\n\nGATHER AT THE JUSTICE CORNER on December 10 AT
 10; 00A.M. at C & Fresno Streets. DRESS as a character - a victim or
oppressor of human rights. EXAMPLES OF HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSERS could be
HILTER, GEORGE W. BUSH, and ULYSIS RUIZ from Oaxaca. EXAMPLES OF HUMAN
RIGHTS VICTIMS could be children and widows of the Iraq war, Viet Nam,
Darfur, Oaxaca, or any political prisoner, China, United State, Mexico, and
Latin America or gays and lesbians whose right to marry has been denied in
the USA.\n\nCome prepared to inform others who your character is, what has
happened to them, or what violations they have committed. It is time to
take action against governments who ignore the rights and liberties of all
human beings. \n\n"For the United States not to accept the declaration is
hypocritical of what this nation supposedly stands for" Kristina H./
Fresno. "By signing on to the Declaration to me is the key to human
dignity and liberty" Odett G/Fresno. "If we truly believe in Human Rights,
we should practice what we preach"\n
