DESCRIPTION:Call To Action: Dec.5, 7pm-Oakland Condo-Conversion Protest! \n\nNo on
Items 31 and 32!\n\nWhen: 7pm-December 5, Oakland City Council Meeting!
\nCome early to sign up as speaker!\n\nWhere: Oakland City Council
 Chambers! \nOakland City Hall \nBroadway and 14th St.\n{Downtown
 Oakland)\n\nSAVE OAKLAND'S CONDO-CONVERSION PROTECTIONS! \n\nNo on Item 31
and Item 32!\n\nOakland's condo-conversion protections face a vote on
December 5, by those who want to weaken the existing laws so much that they
are willing to place thousands of renters at risk of becoming homeless!
\n\nThe realty/developers want to convert Oakland's rental housing stock
into market rate condominiums. \n\nComing up on December 5 - 7pm Oakland
City Council meeting, the condo-conversion proponents have Item 31 and Item
32 coming up for a vote.\n\nEveryone against the weakening of the existing
condo-conversion protections, needs to speak-out\nagainst Item 31 and Item
 32. Please come early to sign up as a speaker! \n\nPresently the swing vote
seems to be Councilwoman Patricia Kernighan, of District #2. 510/238-7002
pkernighan@oaklandnet.com \n\nAs of Friday, December 1, according to
Kernighans\noffice, she was still undecided.\n\nEveryone is urged to
contact Councilmember Kernighan, to urge her to say to against Items 31 and
32, on Dec. 5!\n\nIt appears that Councilmembers De la Fuente, Brooks,
Chang and Reid are a lost cause, and have lost their moral sense of
integrity.\n\nSince more than 90% of Oakland's renters cannot afford to buy
one of the converted-condos being proposed, the above mentioned
councilmembers do not care how many renters get hurt or displaced in the
process, while the developers make their fortunes on this outrageous
venture! \n\nThat leaves Councilmembers Nadel, Quan and Brunner against,
with Kernighan undecided. \n\nThe proponents may need Jerry Brown if
theres a tie vote. Brown would support the developers.\n\nOur best chance
to win, would be to stop the vote somehow from taking place on December 5,
and delay the vote/s (1st reading Dec. 5, and second reading Dec.19) until
sometime in January, when Ron Dellums would have a chance to vote against
the weakening of the current condo-conversion protections. \n\nLandlords
are already trying to force tenants to sign a new contract in support of a
 condo-conversion, in\nanticipation of a change in law. \n\nOakland tenants
should not sign any new contracts that would materially change their
existing contracts, because under Measure EE (eviction protections), the
tenants are not required to sign new contracts that would materially change
the old contract.\n\nBe There 7pm December 5!\n \nCome early to sign up as
a speaker against the weakening of Oakland's condo-conversion laws!
\n\nOakland City Hall at the 7pm-Oakland City Council Meeting! \nDowntown
