 Clinic\nOn Tuesday, Nov. 7th 2006 after having to yet again argue just to 
 receive his life-saving medication from a pharmacy holding it hostage, Raul 
 “Curly” Estremera (a long time community activist) was attacked for 
 asserting his human rights – for decent health care.  While leaving 
 Valley Health Center in Eastside San Jose, the security guard at the clinic 
 blindsided Curly, pepper-spraying him from behind as he was walking out of 
 the clinic.  Curly without knowing who was attacking him, defended himself 
 as best he could, eventually leaving the clinic to an awaiting vehicle for 
 his safety, only to then be approached by several SJPD vehicles, prepared 
 to arrest him for acting in his own safety interests.  Curly tried to 
 approach the officers to complain that someone had pepper-sprayed him, he 
 then was informed that the person who had assaulted him was an off-duty 
 sheriff, and was charging him with ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER WITH A 
 “DEADLY WEAPON” (A trash can that he flung in the direction of his 
 attacker – After being blinded by the continuous use of pepper spray in a 
 desperate attempt to remain conscious).  Only to then be handed over to the 
 SJPD, who proceeded to harass and brutalize him resulting in Curly being 
 rushed to the hospital because of the injuries suffered during 
 transportation while handcuffed in custody, and still be denied food, his 
 medication and further medical attention.\n \nValley Health Center 
 (formerly known as Chaboya Medical Clinic) used to be run in harmony with 
 the Eastside San Jose community with a majority of workers, that 
 represented, were accountable to and part of the community that they were 
 serving.  Now with new corporate-styled owners the service has diminished: 
 even though an ‘automated system’ established for the patients 
 convenience supposedly exists, patients are made to wait 2-4 hours for 
 their medication due to the fact that the current employees do not want to 
 open other available windows including the Handicap window, patients now 
 wait weeks to get appointments at which they are forced to wait even more 
 hours to actually have, long after their scheduled time or after hours in 
 Urgent Care receiving subpart medical attention.  Now the relationship 
 between community and the clinic has deteriorated to the point that it is a 
 constant conflict for patients just to get the basic medication or medical 
 attention they need to save their very lives.  Because the “new clinic” 
 does not represent the community, the community has not complained accept 
 amongst themselves.  And as if this were not enough, now they are 
 physically attacking members of our community, us the very people they are 
 supposed to be serving… ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, WE SAY NO MORE!\n \nCOME AND 
 JOIN THE COMMUNITY IN SAYING “NO MORE!” BY DEMANDING:\n1)       THAT 
 MORE SPANISH SPEAKING EMPLOYEES AND TRANSLATORS ARE HIRED\n2)     THAT THE 
 CLINIC SERVICES REFLECT THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE COMMUNITY\n3)     AN END TO 
 THE PERVASIVE RACIST ATTITUDES, BEHAVIORS, POLICIES, AND PRACTICIES OF 
 DEHUMANIZATION AGAINST PATIENTS AND THE EASTSIDE COMMUNITY BY THE VALLEY 
 MEDICAL CLINIC – WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS, NOT CATTLE!\n4)      THAT THE 
 AUTOMATED TELEFONIC PERSCRIPTION REFILL SYSTEM AND PHARMACY PROCEDURES BE 
 REVAMPED SO THAT THEY SERVE THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY, NOT THE LAZINESS 
 AND INTERESTS OF THE HOSPITAL AND ITS EMPLOYEES!\n5)  DROP THE CHARGE ON

 Clinica Racista\n \nEl martes, 7 de noviembre de 2006 despues de una vez 
 antes haber tenido que discutir solo para recibir medicación salva-vida de 
 la farmacia deteniéndolo como si fuera rehén, Raúl “Curly” Estremera 
 (un activista comunitario de largo tiempo) fué atacado por asertar sus 
 derechos humanos – por causa del cuido medico.  Mientras salía del 
 Valley Health Center en el Este de San José, el guardian de seguridad en 
 la clinica ensegó a Curly con gases de pimienta por detrás mientras 
 caminaba al salir de la clinica.  Sin que supiera Curly quién lo atacaba 
 se defendió lo más que pudo, y saliendo de la clinica hacía un carro que 
 lo esperado para su seguridad.  Luego se le aprontaron varias vehículos 
 del Depto. de Policía de San José para arrestarlo.  Curly trató de 
 acercarse a los oficiales para quejarse que alguien lo había llenado de 
 gases de pimienta.  Luego le informaron que la persona que lo asaltó era 
 un aguacil (sheriff) afuera de las horas de su trabajo y LE DIERON EL CARGO 
 DE ASALTO A UN OFICIAL DE POLICIA CON UNA “ARMA MORTAL” (el bote de la 
 basura que le tiró Curly al atacante – despues de haber sido ciegodo por 
 causa del gases de pimienta que usaba contínuamente y él que trataba de 
 mantenerse desesperadamente conciente).  Solo que entonces lo entregaron al 
 Depto. de Policía de San José, en donde fué hostigado y brutalizado 
 quando fue transportado inmediatamente al hospital porque había sufrido 
 daños durante la transportación mientras estaba esposado de espalda y 
 detenido, y todavía negarle comida, su medicamento y además atención 
 medica.\n \nEl Valley Health Center (anteriormente conocido como Chaboya 
 Medical Clinic) operaba con harmonía con la comunidad del Este de San 
 José con la mayoría de los trabajadores, los que representaban y servían 
 y reportaban por y para la comunidad.  Ahora con nuevos dueños tipo 
 corporación el servicio se ha desminuído: aunque se estableció un 
 sistema de automatación para el beneficio de los pacientes, han hecho que 
 los pacientes esperen de 2 á 4 horas por la medicina por causa de que los 
 empleados actuales que no quieren abrir otras ventanas disponibles 
 incluyendo la ventana de los pacientes incapacitados.  Los pacientes ahora 
 tienen que esperar semanas para obtener una cita en donde tienen que 
 esperar otras más horas para tenerlo, despues de mucho más tiempo citado 
 o despues de horas en el Cuido Urgente y recibir algo de atención médica. 
  Ahora la relación entre la comunidad y la clinica se ha deteriorado hasta 
 el punto donde hay conflicto constante con los pacientes solo por recibir 
 medicación básica ó atención médica que ellos necesitan para salvar su 
 vida.  Ya que la nueva clinica no representa la comunidad, la comunidad 
 (publicamente) no se ha quejado pero con solo entre ellos mismos.  Y si 
 ésto no fuera suficiente, ahora ellos están fisicamente atacando a los 
 miembros de nuestra comunidad, nosotros la misma gente que ellos 
 supuestamente están sirviendo….YA BASTA, NOSOTROS DECIMOS NO MAS!\n 
 \nVENGAN Y ÚNANSE CON LA COMUNIDAD EN DECIR “NO MAS” Y DEMANDAR:\n1)   
     QUE SE EMPLEAN TRABAJADORES DE HABLA-ESPAŇOL Y TRADUCTORES\n2)     QUE 
 LOS SERVICIOS DE LA CLINICA SE REFLEJE LA COMPOSICIÓN DE LA COMUNIDAD\n3)  
    UN FÍN A LAS OBVIAS Y RACISTAS ACTITUDES, COMPORTAMIENTO, POLIZAS Y 
 PRÁCTICAS EN MALTRATAR A LOS PACIENTES Y LA COMUNIDAD DEL ESTE DE SAN
