DESCRIPTION:WANNA END AIDS NOW? ASK A WOMAN HOW!\n\nAlameda County has the fifth
largest number of HIV cases in California.\n\nWomen make up an increasing
proportion of new infections.\nUnfortunately, women and communities of
color are often invisible in the HIV epidemic.\n\nYou can’t stop this
epidemic without us. \n\nJoin women and our allies affected by HIV on World
AIDS Day for a march, press conference, and candlelight vigil in downtown
Oakland.\n\nFriday, December 1st (World AIDS Day)\n\n3:30 pm meet at WORLD
office (414 13th street, between Broadway and Franklin)\n\n4:00 pm march to
Oakland City Hall\n\n4:30 pm program at City Hall\n\nLET YOUR VOICE BE
HEARD!\n\nQuestions? \n\nContact Naina Khanna, Community Outreach
Coordinator at WORLD:\nnkhanna@womenhiv.org or 510.986.0340 ext
316.\n~~~\nAs women affected by HIV, it is critical that we stand together
with our allies to fight stigma, discrimination, and the invisibility of
women in the AIDS epidemic.\n\nOn World AIDS Day 2006, WORLD\n(Women
Organized to Respond to Life-threatening Diseases) demands that:\n\n•
Women and girls living with HIV must be included at all levels of
decision-making around HIV policy. \n\n• HIV education and testing
must be targeted to women and girls.\n\n• Prevention work must include
advocating for the availability of female-controlled prevention strategies
(e.g. microbicides).\n\n• We must fight to demystify and destigmatize
HIV and the communities it disproportionately impacts.\n\n Positive
Women’s Forum on Policy in Oakland to be announced in early 2007! Stay
tuned! Call WORLD at 510.986.0340 with questions.\n\n\n
