DESCRIPTION:This year's annual Buy Nothing Day is Friday Nov 24, 2006. Or Saturday
November 25, 2006, depending on who you believe. The Friday after
Thanksgiving is otherwise known as "Black Friday", the day when hoards of
shoppers hit the stores to start the Christmas buying season. It is
supposed to be the biggest shopping day of the year. Hence the term "Black
Friday", the day when most retailers get out of the red and into the black,
finacially. \n\nBuy Nothing Day is a consumer boycott of all stores on the
Friday after Thanksgving that shows support for turning away from the
culture of mass consumption and wastefulness. My store (not named here)
will be closed on Friday Nov 24, 2006 in solidarity with Buy Nothing Day.
And so I can go out of town for Thanksgivng.\n\nBuy Nothing Day is also
recognized on Saturday, Nov 25, 2006 in Europe. They don't have
Thanksgiving over there, so they have Buy Nothing Day on the last Saturday
of November, although it is claimed that Buy Nothing Day in the US/Canada
is on Nov 24 this year,\naccording to
 http://www.buynothingday.co.uk/\n\n\nAdbusters
\nhttp://www.adbusters.org/metas/eco/bnd/\nsays that Nov 25 is Buy Nothing
Day every year. Wikipedia says that it is the day after Thanksgiving every
 year. See
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buy_Nothing_Day\n\nhttp://www.media-awareness.ca/english/resources/educational/teaching_backgrounders/advertising_marketing/buy_nothing_day.cfm\nsays
it's the day after Thanksgiving every year.\n
